Iggy the Piggy!
Hey everybody!
Haven't posted much lately, so I decided to post an update about what I'm up to.
This friend of mine, Kosta, came up with this really cool challenge that we could start. Basically, we would try to create an original Character, model/texture him in an extremely stylized and low-res format, rig him, and animate him for a few seconds.
Somewhat like spaceman George.
He thought it would be good to discipline us and help get us something for our reels and whatnot, so I decided to tag along and get somewhat of a head start :D.
Here are some pictures of my little guy, Iggy the Piggy!
I shall work hard to bring the little one to life :D

Rigging!
So, this is an explanation of the rigging I'd like to do!
Here is the mesh for the mustache :
And here is a video of how his mouth moves :

I'd like to be able to rig the mustache so that I can have full control of it, being able to move it as he speaks. Thanks!
Here is a picture of the old and the new moustache :)
The new wireframe is for a fan-like motion, and maybe make any squash and stretch easier.

Some old Sketches for Metro-bo :D!!
These are my initial sketches for my short film Metro-bo. The idea was given to me after a day out with my two buddies Kosta and Javier. We were talking about how our short films would be a lot stronger if we could relate them to ourselves or our past experiences. Here are some of the initial sketches of Charles and Larry and some boarding bits :)!!

My Demo Reel /What I've been up to.
It's been about three months since the student showcase at Dawson, which I personally find was a great success and a very fulfilling experience. Being a student in the 3D animation class at Dawson was really awesome. All the great people I've had the chance to meet, all the great experiences I've had, and the amazing things I've learned have all contributed to my personal evolution, and I'm extremely thankful for that and hope the best for all the people who I've met!
Summer passed by in a flash and now I'm basically looking for a job in the industry. I put together a demo reel and am constantly working at bettering myself in my fields of study. I'm also keeping contact with all the students in the previous years since they're awesome people too!
Here is a Link to the demo reel, for those of you whom are interested!

More to come soon,
Thanks!

Lack of Updates, there's a Reason!
I'm sorry for the lack of updates on the blog, I've been up to a lot recently (working on my short film and demo reel and full-time work) and have been coping with an injury.
New updates will be coming up soon! I'll make sure of that!
Until then, good day!

The Grand Dirt Orchestra!
Recently, I asked my sister if she wanted to join me in a drawing a day challenge. The challenge consists of doing 1 drawing a day for 100 days, we would choose a random word and it would be the theme of the day.
Today's theme was Orchestra. And I came up with this!
Random Sketches and Drawings! :D
A bunch of random drawings I put together.
It's Admiral Brain! I will be adding drawings of his disguise as a normal citizen, Brian Cerebro!
Another character with a big back-story that I will probably develop in a following post!
Thanks for viewing!

Life Drawing and Practice
I've recently started taking a class for Life Drawing at Studio Technique, taught by none other than the awesome Samantha Youssef! I really learned a great deal throughout most of the classes that I've taken so far, and with lots of practice, have improved (just a teeny bit, there is so much more to learn!).
Here goes!
This is obviously not the greatest work, but how I've improved in a year is unbelievable!! And I hope to improve a lot more in the coming year!!
Thanks for reading!

Charles! Modeled, Textured, Smiling :D
Here is the model (textured, rigged, etc) of Charles!!
Working on this for one whole year, from preproduction (concept and design, boards, modeling, rigging) to production and animation, I've gotten extremely attached to this little guy. Can't help but laugh when I see his big eyes and big smile!
He started out as a little annoying trouble-maker who was the embodiment of every close encounter i have had with these people. Weird, dirty, in your space, mostly negative things. Then, thinking back and looking past appearances at all the times I've met these people, it allowed me to acknowledge that our prejudiced thoughts of these people are generally unfounded and only exist to give us a reason to keep our distance, which is unfortunate, because I have talked to most of these people and most of them have interesting and wise things to say (when they aren't rambling about weird things).
Which is why, on the journey to the end of the school year (more precisely near the end of pre-production) the hobo slowly turned from a distasteful and dirty little guy to an extremely nice, caring, adorable clown-around kind of guy. A child at heart. He's still dirty, but I can look past that, and hopefully you can too :D.
I've learned quite a bit during the whole production, not only artistically and technically, but it has also helped me discover a lot of other things(excuse my near-spiritual talk here). Most people are not what they seem to be, and you should always be willing to give them a chance and not judge them on the spot (easier said then done, but an effort should be made!).
And that is mostly the basis and moral of my short film!

Metrobo : Storyboard Piece
Here is a part of the Storyboard of Metrobo!
It's when Charles makes fun of the automated intercom announcer. (I've seen this happen before, so no comments on my lack of reference :)...)
Enjoy!
Larry : Expression sheet
Left : Trying out different noses/styles || Right : Expressions! |
Larry's expression sheet. Larry is (somewhat) the villain of the story, because he is a stuck-up office worker who's had a very tiring day (like all the other days in his life), and Charles bothers him after an extremely exhausting day.
Hope you enjoy!
Charles : Expression sheet!
Charle's expression sheet.
His main emotion is happy, and he never gets angry (not unless someone is bothering his buddies)
and there are other emotions in-between! Not as many expressions as I would have liked due to time
constraints, but there you have it!
Ciao!
Charles!
